Research and Study Initiatives by AMFI-WB:
The importance of inclusive development increases manifold in a developing and vast country like India. The poor living in West Bengal represent the country’s vulnerability, arising out of their unequal access to financial literacy, products and services. Given the strong drive towards financial inclusion by government of India and RBI over the past decades or so, MFIs have assumed a key role in ensuring the reach of financial services to the target segments enabling them to undertake income generation activities, drive self employment and overcome the economic barriers in a sustainable manner.
Our research initiatives discovers the prevailing gap in functioning of MFIs such as practices in credit delivery, lack of product diversification, customer overlapping and duplications, consumption and individual loan demand with lack of mitigation measures. All these are clear syndromes, which tell us that the situation is moving without any direction.This research work highlights the evaluation of various aspects of the Microfinance industry and how the humane touch continues to be relevant for this industry.
Our research objective is to identify the main problems prevailing in microfinance in West Bengal and also to find the solution of the problems faced by the MFIs.
